Anacortes Day Ride
This week I took a day off to avoid the weekend rush and head up to Anacortes with one of my riding buddies. It is a really great day ride that includes running up along Hood Canal to Port Townsend, then catching the ferry across to Coupeville on Whidby Island. From there you head north over the Deception Pass bridge onto Fidalgo island and then all the way up into Anacortes.
Our planned lunch stop was at Gere-A-Deli, a fantastic food stop that is not overpriced (rare for the Puget Sound region). After lunch we took an alternate route back to Deception Pass and down to the Coupeville ferry. We tracked back down along Hood Canal and just followed our original path back. All in all about 6.5 hours of ride time and about 1.5 hours total on the ferry’s.
Tip: For the morning ferry book your time slot online to ensure a spot (free online) and pay for the fare at the booth. For the return ferry just show up before it gets there. Worse case you will just wait 45 min for the next ferry. It is very rare that they can not fit a motorcycle on the ferry though.

On the ferry from Coupeville: the Japanese Yamaha and the Italian Aprilla side by side, but far from related other than both being classed as Adventure bikes.
